DEPARTMENT: QUALITY
Purpose:
Leads the day-to-day operations of the Hickman Testing Laboratory by supervising laboratory personnel, coordinating resources and testing activities, and ensuring laboratory operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality standards. Promotes operational excellence through effective leadership, workforce development, continuous improvement, and adherence to safety and quality requirements.
Main Responsibilities:
- Supervises daily laboratory operations and coordinates personnel schedules and resource allocation to support operational requirements.
- Ensures required laboratory testing is performed according to applicable standards, procedures, customer requirements, and Tenaris quality standards.
- Prioritizes and organizes laboratory workload to meet production and operational demands.
- Monitors laboratory activities to ensure compliance with quality, safety, and operational procedures, and participates in the development and implementation of laboratory procedures and work instructions.
- Coordinates with Operations, Quality, Metallurgy, Maintenance, and Process Technology to support production objectives and resolve operational issues.
- Leads, coaches, trains, and develops laboratory personnel while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Supports and leads continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency, productivity, and reliability.
- Monitors Process indicators like productivity, utilization, charge to thousand, interruptions, rejections. Optimizes plant's performance and promotes the compliance of inspection plans and basic preventive maintenance.
- To comply with HSE procedures, report any incident or observation, perform inspections and participate in the investigation process. Implement the preventive/corrective actions. Keep updated the risk analysis and the environmental aspect assessment.
- Complies with the energy and other supplies consumption target/goals, carrying out the required actions that aim to reduce the use of them.
- Complies with Tenaris policies, procedures and management standards, and ensures adherence with all laws and regulations that apply to the area of responsibility.
- Proactively motivates, coaches, communicates with and develops his/her staff and manages HR related activities in line with Human Resources norms and procedures. Protects from damage, theft or misuse the facilities, equipment and other physical resources assigned to his/her area.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Five (5) or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment with Quality Management Systems (QMS), including three (3) or more years of experience in a materials testing laboratory.
- Experience managing external suppliers, service providers, and procurement processes, including purchase requisitions (PRs) and purchase orders (POs).
- Familiarity with API, ASTM, ISO, NACE, and CSA standards.
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications and computer systems in a networked environment.
- Strong leadership, team management, and resource allocation skills with the ability to coach, develop, and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, make sound decisions within established guidelines, effectively prioritize competing work demands, and drive continuous improvement while maintaining a strong commitment to quality and safety.
