About the Role

We are looking for a Human Resources Specialist to join our HR team based in Georgetown, Guyana.

As the primary local HR contact, you will play a key role in delivering efficient HR operations, ensuring compliance with Guyanese and Surinamese labor legislation, and fostering an exceptional employee experience. You will collaborate closely with employees, managers, external payroll providers, legal advisors, and regional HR teams to provide accurate and high-quality HR services while driving continuous improvement across HR processes.

Acting as a trusted HR partner, you will support employees and managers in both Guyana and Suriname while coordinating with regional HR stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review payroll inputs, employee movements, overtime records, leave balances, and statutory deductions prior to payroll processing.
  • Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll, benefits, taxes, leave, company policies, and other HR matters.
  • Ensure compliance with Guyanese and Surinamese labor legislation, company policies, and internal procedures.
  • Coordinate employment contracts, onboarding activities, personnel records management, and offboarding processes.
  • Support employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary procedures, grievance handling, and workplace issues.
  • Monitor changes in labor legislation and recommend updates to HR policies and practices.
  • Coordinate work permits, immigration requirements, and employment-related documentation, as applicable.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to managers by providing guidance on people-related matters and HR best practices.
  • Partner with leaders to support employee engagement, talent development, performance management, and organizational initiatives.
  • Support employee recognition, communication, wellbeing, and culture-building programs.
  • Maintain HR records, reports, and documentation with a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve HR processes, employee services, and operational efficiency.
  • Analyze HR data and prepare reports to support workforce planning and business decision-making.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Law, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in HR Operations, HR Generalist, or Employee Relations roles.
  • Strong knowledge of Guyanese labor legislation and HR best practices.
  • Knowledge of Surinamese labor legislation is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting payroll processes and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with external payroll providers, consultants, or HR vendors is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Experience using HRIS, payroll systems, or other HR technology platforms is an advantage.
  • Availability and flexibility to travel within Guyana, Suriname, and other locations across the region as required.
