Maintenance Specialist - Houston, TX  

 

LOCATION: Houston - Texas  - USA 

DEPARTMENT: INDUSTRIAL OPERATIONS 

 

Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Willingness to provide after-hours support, emergency response, and on-call coverage as operational needs require, including the ability to work both day and night shifts.

 

Purpose: Manages and oversees maintenance activities in the area/specialty under charge and assists Maintenance Line Manager in the overall management of the Line/Process. Ensures contribution from a technical perspective in the analysis and solution of highly complex issues in the area of specialty.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the definition of investment and maintenance policies for installations and equipment in his/her area of responsibility, and defines new investments related to reliability, maintainability and equipment obsolescence, in line with general business policies and health, safety and environment regulations.
  • Ensures the Line/Process continuity by: fulfilling and optimizing maintenance plans and programs; participating in the planning of large stoppages (REX); ensuring availability and reliability of critical assets; coordinating Base Group activities; ensuring non-operational stoppages are duly performed;  ensuring root-cause failure analysis on chronic and/or sporadic equipment breakdown or losses.
  • Ensures the development and optimization of maintenance preventive methods to reduce maintenance workload and avoid unforeseen stoppages.
  • Supports Engineering and Operations area in the research and assessment of new technologies, procedures, and standards. Ensures the correct sharing and implementation of maintenance standards, procedures and best practices that apply to his/her area of responsibility. Identifies and proposes issues related to its applicability.
  • Verifies and controls the proper management, cataloguing, update and sharing of all technical maintenance documentation (technical specifications, procedures, operational processes, drawings, etc.)
  • Controls the continuous provision of supplies and services coordinating material procurement and repairs and verifying that the stock and spares holding levels are defined according to global standards. Proposes corrective actions in case any deviation to standards.
  • Assists Maintenance Line Manager in the overall management of the Line/Process (Budget control, Human Resources, Health and Safety, etc.) by effectively interacting with other key areas (Production, Quality, Central Maintenance, Industrial Services, etc.)
  • Controls the execution of the Energy management plans and programs verifying the optimal management of facilities in his/her area of responsibility. Verifies compliance with energy saving/efficiency internal standards and external regulations.
  • Proposes and manages the area Master plan for the solution of critical problems
  • Leads the systematic analysis of critical assets to identify and solve chronic problems, improve their availability, reliability and cost, and facilitate preventive maintenance activities.
  • Verifies the proper management, update, and use of Maintenance information systems, in order to support the decision-making process.
  • Participates in the definition of the area budget and controls its proper execution, detecting any deviations to standards and proposing corrective actions
  • Fosters the implementation of maintenance programs to minimize/optimize the use of required energy and promotes improvement actions in general, including interventions on employees' behavior,  in order to decrease all resources consumption waste.
  • Contributes from a technical perspective in the analysis and solution of highly complex issues in the area of specialty. To comply with HSE procedures, report any incident or observation, perform inspections, and participate in the investigation process. Implement the preventive/corrective actions. Keep updated the risk analysis and the environmental aspect assessment.
  • Complies with Tenaris policies, procedures and management standards, and ensure adherence with all laws and regulations that apply to the area of responsibility.
  • Protects from damage, theft or misuse the facilities, equipment and other physical resources assigned to his/her area.

 

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or Automation Engineering related discipline is required.
  • Hands-on experience with automation and control systems, including PLC programming and troubleshooting is required.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical instrumentation, controls, and industrial electrical systems is required.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) is required.
  • Experience working and troubleshooting with NDT (Nondestructive test) equipment is required.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting industrial network systems (Rockwell), HMI systems, and automation technologies is required.
  • Experience supporting electrical design and implementation of automation improvement projects is required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot safety control systems is required.
  • Experience providing maintenance services for power distribution electrical systems is required.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, leadership, and organizational skills is required.
  • Ability to work effectively with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, contractors, and cross-functional teams is required.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Combination of office and shop floor presence within an active industrial environment.
  • Regular interaction with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and leadership teams.
  • Must be able to work in industrial environments requiring PPE and exposure to heat, noise, dust, and moving equipment.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk throughout industrial facilities and access elevated work areas.
  • Ability to wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
